Must-Try: Avocado Toast at Nourish
At Nourish Wellness Cafe, we take avocado toast seriously. Like all the ingredients we source, our avocado toast is made with organic avocados – which are also Fair Trade whenever possible. We love avocado toast so much that we have three different varieties on our menu. Come into our sunny cafe in downtown Northampton and try them all! On these beautiful summer days, you can enjoy even enjoy your avocado toast on a lime-green chair outdoors.
Choose Your Avo
Sprouted rye sourdough bread from Tart Bakery is the foundation of all our avocado toasts. Unless you’re gluten-free, that is – in which case we’ll put your avocado on the yummiest gluten-free bread! We also finish all our avo toasts with a drizzle of EVOO (that’s extra virgin olive oil, for the uninitiated) and a sprinkle of sea salt.
Avocado Toast #1: Classic
The classic Avo Toast needs no introduction: just nourishing, creamy, organic avocado slices. Simple and satisfying! Not only are avocados incredibly delicious, they’re also so good for you. According to Women’s Health, avocados are so high in potassium (even more than bananas) that they may help lower blood pressure. The healthy monounsaturated fats in avocado are great for skin, hair, nails, and eyes. Monounsaturated fats can even help keep you safe! According to a study by the University of Buffalo,
“Competitive female runners whose diets were made up of less than 20 percent fat were more likely to suffer injuries than those who consumed at least 31 percent. Translation? Incorporating more healthy fats into your diet may help your body better fend off injury.”
Avocado Toast #2: Cheesy – and Vegan!
Take it up a notch with the Cheesy-Avo – made with vegan, house-fermented cashew “cheese”! This one’s a little heartier, with the added benefits of fermented cashew goodness. Cashews are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Cashews contain vitamins E and K, as well the minerals copper, phosphorus, iron, selenium, magnesium, and zinc. The nutrients found in nuts like cashews can help fight heart disease, and support the health of blood vessels, nerves, bones, and your immune system. The fact that our cashew cheese is fermented makes all these nutrients even more available for your body! Learn about the benefits of fermented foods in this blog post.
Avocado Toast #3: Secret Garden
Possibly our favorite avocado toast of all, the Garden Toast is topped with magenta hummus, thinly-sliced cucumbers, and sliced avocado, of course. Beets are the not-so-secret ingredient resulting in the bright hue of the hummus we make and serve at Nourish. Ranking up there with avocados as one of our favorite healing foods, beets can lower blood pressure, boost energy and brain power, and so much more. Try incorporating beets into your diet and experience the benefits yourself. We offer beets in a number of delicious forms at Nourish; explore our menu for more of them.
Before you come in for avocado toast…
Occasionally it happens that we run out of avocados! We want you to know that at Nourish Wellness Cafe, the quality of the ingredients we use is our number-one priority. This means if the best organic avocados are not available from our suppliers, we won’t compromise by stocking conventional avocados instead. So if we happen to be out of avocados the day you come in, that’s why – because we care deeply about the health of our customers and our planet.
